The Daddies is Officially Released!
My new novel, The Daddies, is an allegory about smashing the patriarchy, but told as a queer leather-daddy love story. (You know, as you do.) Don't wait though, it's available for pre-order now.
November 4, 2018
San Francisco, CA
Center for Sex and Culture
In 1998, Dr. Carol Queen put out a steamy little book called The Leather Daddy and the Femme. It was also a great interpersonal analysis of gender roles and dominance and submission. Guess what, my new book, The Daddies, does some of that too, and some political commentary as well. We're going to read together from these books and talk about how public discourse about Daddy/girl relationships has evolved over the past twenty years too. This'll be fab. You should be there.
November 8-11, 2018
Atlanta, GA
National Women's Studies Association Conference
I'll be spending time with the Fat Studies folks, the Lesbian Caucus folks and reading some poetry. And Atlanta is great. (Make me an offer and I'll stay a few more days...) Here are the specifics: November 9 at 4:15 p.m. I'll perform an excerpt from Things I Learned From Fat People on the Plane as part of a "Performing New Visions of Justice" panel. At 1:15 on November 10, I'll discuss audience response to Things I Learned from Fat People on the Plane. And wow, that discussion is getting more and more interesting the longer I perform this show. I hope to see you at the conference!

I'm on campus today talking to classes about the magnificence of Summer Arts in general, and my course in specific. Apply to join us for two weeks of Social Action Writing. I'll be joined by Kiese Laymon, Sarah Schulman, Melissa Fabello, and Ant Black (Anthony Blacksher). Yes, a truly amazing line-up - and you, of course. I also want you to look into the Black Girl Magic course and think about taking both classes (6 units of college credit in 4 weeks) for the same student fees. If you know of any students or professors on this campus who might like to learn more about Summer Arts, please put me in touch.

Magnificent essays, novel, and the memoir, Heavy, is forthcoming (read this essay right now, even), along with Melissa Fabello, managing editor at Everyday Feminism and social commenter extraordinaire. In addition to Kiese and Melissa, Sarah Schulman, author of Conflict is Not Abuse (and 18 other books), is teaching with us. Ant Black (Anthony Blacksher) is bringing the poetry too. Corporeal Writing Workshop
I'll be doing a two-day workshop in Portland at Lidia Yuknavitch's brilliant Corporeal Writing Center. Also, a reading on Saturday night. This workshop focuses on finding the flow, distributed intelligence (as in, more than your mind is thinking things through!), expanded awareness, and sleep wisdom. We're going to work with our bodies (gently, nothing aerobic!), and our shifting consciousness and we'll also write a lot. Sign up here.
